The reason you’re in an afternoon slump.

I know exactly how you feel. Your eyes are getting heavy and you can’t stop yawning. You’ve read the same paragraph three times and still don’t know what it says. It’s only 3:00 but it feels like it’s 8:00 at night.

You’re about to head to the kitchen to get another cup of coffee and grab a leftover cupcake from the birthday party earlier today?

If only was a way to avoid the afternoon slump?

I have good news, there is!

This is part of the reason I became a health coach, to help people find the foods that keep them energized throughout the day.

Working with a health coach can help you make better choices throughout the day so you aren’t doing a George Costanza in the afternoon.

What may surprise you is that your afternoon crash might be caused by more than one thing. Our bodies natural circadian rhythms slow our systems down in the afternoons. Since we aren’t in Europe and we don’t get to enjoy an afternoon siesta we have to find different ways to keep our energy up in the afternoons.

But hey, if taking a 20 minute nap in the afternoon is in the realm of possibility for you. Go for it! It’s a great way to get a quick reset for your system.

Here’s the truth, your afternoon crash probably isn’t caused by just one thing. It’s likely a combination of several things. Some of the reasons why you might be falling asleep at your desk in the afternoons could be:

  • Poor diet: Eating meals high in sugar or refined carbohydrates that cause blood sugar spikes and crashes.

  • Dehydration: Not drinking enough water throughout the day.

  • Insufficient sleep: Not getting enough quality sleep at night.

  • Stress: High levels of stress can disrupt sleep patterns and contribute to fatigue.

  • Caffeine crash: Consuming too much caffeine earlier in the day, leading to a later energy dip.

  • Lack of exercise: Not engaging in regular physical activity.

  • Large lunch: Eating a heavy meal at lunch can make you feel sluggish.

  • Hormonal fluctuations: Changes in sex hormones like estrogen and testosterone can affect energy levels.

But don’t get overwhelmed! Because this is a lot of stuff to think about. The idea isn’t that you tackle all of these at once. Chances are these aren’t all issues for you. Your best bet is to try on at a time to see what is causing your afternoon crash and then make small changes to improve your energy.

I know it can be overwhelming and hard to figure out what’s causing your afternoon slump.

Fear not, I’m here to help, I’ve got just the thing for you.

I’ve created a 55 minute health review. It’s a chance for you to talk with me so we can figure out what’s causing your afternoon slumps. During this call we will identify at least one easy change you can make to your diet that will help you power through your busy days

Because the last thing I want for you is for you to fall asleep at your desk every afternoon.
